About Me
My name is Amelia Schroeder, and I am a senior at University of South Carolina pursuing a degree in Visual Communications with a concentration in Sports Media and a minor in Business Administration.
Coming from Houston, there were many great state schools I could have attended, but something told me to look beyond the great state of Texas. I chose to apply to the University of South Carolina having never visited the Southeast and in hopes that it could love me in a way I knew that I could love it. During my time here, I was fortunate enough to involve myself in varying practices that determined my GLD pathway as Professional and Civic Engagement. Starting college during a global pandemic had its own impact on my time here at Carolina but I would not have changed my journey. I was able to gain involvement in the University 101 program where I acted as a Peer Leader for three University 101 classes. Through the program I grew in my ability to lead and took on the larger role of Senior Peer Leader, where I was employed by the university and able to co-instruct EDLP 520, The Teacher as Manager. In between my semesters teaching, I was fortunate enough to join the Journalism school in the Multimedia Munich Maymester. I spent a month in Germany navigating the cultural differences in large between our two countries. While exploring Munich and Berlin, I was challenged to travel with my camera where I could excuse my own perspective and instead see through an alternative lens. While these experiences helped greatly in aiding my discovery of myself, my Interior Design internship with Chapman Design proved to be the greatest impact in furthering my career. At this internship in Houston, I was able to immerse myself directly into the world of design and know that the Visual Communication pathway is where I belong. Among these experiences I was also able to work part time serving at Market on Main, and engage in active membership of my sorority, Chi Omega. As a member, I served as both T-shirt Chair and Recruitment Chair where I won Best Recruitment Video for the Southeast Atlantic Region in Fall of 2023. While my experiences have been diverse, they all have a common theme: they have each aided in the discovery of uncovering my passions for the different ways we as people view the world. I strive to continue to immerse myself into the perspectives of the people around me to gain knowledge and compassion for the world beyond my eyes. Beyond the University of South Carolina, I will chase my dream of Interior Design with the accumulation of knowledge these last four years have given me. Thank you for your time visiting my E-portfolio. |
